True The Vote Joins Effort to 'True' Wisconsin Recall Vote

True The Vote is pleased to join Verify the Recall, a grassroots effort to assure that recall petitions currently being circulated throughout Wisconsin to recall Governor Scott Walker are free, honest, and satisfy Wisconsin’s election laws. Too many Americans are doubtful of our electoral process today and True The Vote is determined to help citizens feel assured about the integrity of their system in the Badger State.

True The Vote has teamed with We the People of the Republic and The Wisconsin Grandsons of Liberty to assemble an all volunteer force of citizens interested in keeping the recall efforts legitimate and legal by organizing an effort to validate every signature on the petitions now being circulated. Software has been developed to verify the information with each signature, to detect duplicate signatures, and to allow citizens to access an Internet-based database to search their names and addresses to see if they have been included as a signatory on any of the petitions.

“By taking such efforts, we will be able to protect the integrity of Wisconsin’s elections by ensuring that only legitimate Wisconsin electors are counted – once – as signors of petitions,” the new website for Verify the Recall says.

Thousands of volunteers are assembling to take on this task which will begin as soon as petitions are returned to the Wisconsin Secretary of State’s office and Verify the Recall has access to them. You do not have to be a citizen of Wisconsin to volunteer. Because all data entry will occur online, volunteers will be able to enter data into the database from wherever they live.

In a recent email to supporters, Ross Brown of We The People of the Republic said, “The response [Monday] has been overwhelming. Verify The Recall has become a national story less than 24 hours after it was announced.”

While the verify effort is seeing some success raising volunteers, Democrats say they are starting to have some trouble raising money for their recall effort. Fox Channel 6 reports that Democrat operatives think they need another $150,000 to finish the effort to get the needed half million signatures of Wisconsin voters to recall Governor Walker. This desperation could easily translate to fraud being employed to finish the signature gathering process.

Meanwhile there is already news that Democrat signature gathering has been hit with fraud. A man working for the Democrat’s recall effort has admitted that he fraudulently signed petitions at least 80 times.

When asked by the media why he violated the law and signed his name so many times, the man said, “Oh well. Whatever it takes to get Scott Walker out of here, I’m happy.”

Worse news for the legality of the petitions is the news from state officials that they may not spend any energy making sure recall signatures are legal in the first place. Petitions may be just accepted as is with no official verification raising fears that massive fraud will go uninvestigated by state officials.

The conservative state policy group The MacIver Institute reports that at least one liberal petition gathering effort is telling its volunteers that it is OK to sign recall petitions multiple times.

These sorts of stories are cause enough to begin this effort to verify petition signatures.
