HOUSTON, TX. October 12, 2012 - True The Vote (TTV), the nonpartisan election integrity organization, today issued the following statement regarding the investigation into alleged interstate voter fraud by Fort Bend County Commissioner Candidate, Bruce Fleming.

“Allegations of interstate voter fraud cannot be offered lightly,” True The Vote President, Catherine Engelbrecht said. “Over the past weeks, True The Vote has investigated and turned over evidence of 99 cases of voters casting ballots from two states in a single election. Although the process can take considerable time, it is imperative that records direct from states indicate perfect matches of full name, birth date and voting histories. Utilizing voter data and history from third party sources can prove troubling, leading to false positives.

“True The Vote never releases the identity or any identifying details of individuals that are alleged to have committed interstate voter fraud prior to a conviction. Given the public nature of this case, True The Vote calls on any party with direct evidence of Mr. Fleming’s alleged interstate fraud to release their findings. Clarifying whether evidence was obtained direct from the States of Texas and Pennsylvania will not only save precious time for voters before making their decision, but provide an excellent example for other interested citizens wishing to stop voter fraud in their communities.

“This should not be a partisan matter. Allowing affected Fort Bend County voters the ability to review the facts not only improves accountability, but due process under the law. Should these allegations prove true, it must serve as yet another reminder that no candidate or cause is worth a felony conviction.”
